Prepare the first 48 hours of a crisis on a calm day, and see a supplier failure coming
An Excel workbook, a step-by-step guide and a sheet to print, to write down who decides, who speaks and whom to call on the day everything stops, spot your critical suppliers, watch ten warning signs and keep a log of decisions.
Free to download: one click, no sign-up, no email address.
What the module contains
- “The first 48 hours” sheet: who decides and their stand-in, one voice for staff, customers and the bank, the first three actions each with a name, then the useful numbers, on paper.
- A critical suppliers table: share of your purchases, time to replace them, alternative, safety stock, with a calculated criticality score and a plan B for each.
- Ten warning signs to watch at a supplier or a major customer, with where to check them (including the French BODACC), and the lesson of the Carillion case.
- A crisis log: one line per decision, overdue deadlines flagged, and a standard agenda for a 15-minute daily check-in.
- A 12-page step-by-step guide with screenshots, a one-page sheet to fill in by hand and a fictitious example explained figure by figure.
- A two-to-three-minute step-by-step video.
Who it is for
- Leaders of SMEs and mid-sized companies with no crisis unit, who know that on the day everything will rest on two or three people.
- Those who depend on a few suppliers or a few major customers, and want to see a failure coming rather than discover it.

The steps in the video
The figures shown come from a fictitious example.
- The day everything stopsOn that day, nobody has time to work out who decides or where the insurer’s number is. You fill in this workbook beforehand, on a calm day.
- One order, five tabsThe first tab gives the order in which to fill in the others. White cells are for your entries; grey cells calculate themselves.
- 1. Who decidesOne person decides, with a stand-in. Write down how long without an answer before the stand-in takes over.
- 2. Who speaksOne voice for staff, customers and the bank, and a first message ready to say within the hour.
- 3. The first three actionsEach action has a name and a deadline. For the insurer, the policy sets the time limit for notifying a claim.
- 4. The numbers, on paperInsurer, bank, accountant, lawyer, IT, hosting, energy. One copy in a drawer, one on your phone.
- 5. Your critical suppliersFor each one: its share of your purchases, the time to replace it, an alternative, the safety stock.
- The score and plan BThree ratings multiplied give a score from 1 to 48. In the fictitious example, supplier A is critical: its plan B is written next to it.
- 6. Ten warning signsLate deliveries, a request for a deposit, payment times getting longer: each sign says where to check it and what to do.
- The only severe signInsolvency proceedings published in the BODACC. For a customer in France, you have two months to lodge your claim, with your lawyer and your accountant.
- The Carillion lessonWhen it went into liquidation on 15 January 2018, Carillion owed around £2 billion to its 30,000 suppliers, sub-contractors and other short-term creditors. There were signs beforehand.
- 7. Keep the watch listFive minutes a month: the company, the sign, the date. Severity and days elapsed calculate themselves.
- 8. Crisis day: the logOne line per decision: who owns it, why, by when. An overdue deadline turns red.
- The daily check-in, 15 minutesStanding, at a set time, in five points: what has changed, yesterday’s decisions, cash, today’s decisions, what we say.
- An hour and a half, on a calm dayFill it in with the person who stands in for you, print the sheet, read it again once a year. The workbook, guide and sheet are in the module.
