An IT domain’s portfolio and budget, built with the people who spend it
- Assignment delivered for:
- GRDF
- Period:
- November 2021 to December 2023
- Roles held:
- PMO / PM and programme director
The stakes
Coordinate the portfolio of an IT domain (digital projects for customers and partners, cross-functional projects for HR, Treasury and Communications) and secure the capacity of several units.
What I was responsible for
- The unit heads’ committee and regular reviews with the head of domain on activity and budget.
- The domain’s budget envelopes and next-year projections, aligned with financial control.
- Spend optimisation through cost analysis and supplier negotiation.
- Supplier contracts: vendor selection, negotiation of the build and run scopes, SLAs, a quality assurance plan and a security assurance plan, so that penalties or refunds could be claimed, or a contract exited.
- The portfolio reporting method and indicators, kept up throughout.
- A regular continuous-improvement session to share practices and clear blockers, and standardised processes across units.
Result
A success: the domain’s portfolio and budget held throughout the assignment, a next-year projection aligned with financial control, optimised spend and processes shared by every unit.
The lesson
A budget is managed with the people who spend it. Regular reviews with each manager make next year’s projection reliable.
